Dr. Çetin graduated from the American Collegiate Institute in İzmir, and from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. She completed her adult psychiatry training in the Department of Psychiatry in 1987 and child and adolescent psychiatry training in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey in 1993. She received the title of “Associate professor” in 1993 and “Professor” in 2002.
She attended courses on adolescent psychiatry and integrated family therapy at Edinburgh University, U.K., with a Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBİTAK) scholarship in 1988. She also completed psychoanalytic group training therapy between 1994-2002, and individual psychoanalysis and psychotherapy training between 1998-2004.
Dr. Cetin worked as a “visiting fellow” at Harvard Medical School, in the Children’s Hospital Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Judge Baker Center, USA, in 1993. She completed the Certificate Program for Educators in the Health Professions at Harvard Macy Institute in 2007.
She had taken charge in International Mental Health and the Developmental Disabilities Program of the Fogarty International Center at the Children’s Hospital in Boston between 2002-2005 and in the Development of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Program of “WHO”, in Albania, in 2005.
Dr. Çetin is the recipient of the Department of State ‘Federal Assistance Award’ in 2008.
Dr. Çetin is currently the president of the Association of Turkish Child and Youth Psychiatry. She is a member of the International Society of Adolescent Psychiatry (ISAP) and European Association for Research on Adolescence (EARA). She is also in charge as a corresponding member of the International Relations Committee and consultant member of Adolescence Psycychiatry Committee of the American Academy for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.She is also a member of the Task Force for the Development of European Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (ESCAP) and Education Initiative Group member, International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP).
Her professional interests include adolescence period psychopathologies and their treatment (especially eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), individual, family and group psychotherapies.
