Dr. Ünal graduated from Ankara University Medical Faculty. He completed his adult psychiatry training at Psychiatry Department in Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine, İzmir in1991 and furthermore child and adolescent psychiatry training at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department in Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey in 1997. He completed the Psychodrama Training Program organized by the Turkish Association of Group Psychotherapies, together with Moreno Psychodrama Institute, Überlingen, Germany and became a Psychodrama Therapist in 1998. He received the title of “Associate professor” in 1998 and “Professor” in 2004.

Dr. Ünal was the recipient of the 1999 and the 2009 Psychiatric Association of Turkey, Professor Doctor Mualla Öztürk Child Mental Health Award and the 2000 İzmir Psychiatric Association, Child And Adolescent Psychiatry Research Award.

He had been a Research Fellow at NIMH ICORTHA Fogarty International Research Training Program in Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, Children’s Hospital, Boston (MA), Harvard University, USA in 2002.

Dr. Ünal’s research interests include pervasive developmental disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other common psychiatric disorders.
